Music Pioneer and enlighten soul Gregg Allman lost his fight with cancer. 1945-2017 Rest Easy,
Tears are streaming down my face as I type this tragic news. The musician, songwriter and singer known for fronting The Allman Brothers Band for over 45 years is gone. He fought the good fight, but he finally lost his fight with liver cancer. The southern icon died in peace at his beloved home in Savannah, Georgia.
The brother of Duane Allman, who died in a motorcycle accident in 1971, would not let the band they built die as well. He became the reluctant frontman and turned The Allman Brothers into a musical dynasty that constantly evolved until 2014 when they retired. They were the southern "Grateful Dead", one of only a few bands where the music became alive and literally changed the course of their fan's lives. He was diagnosed with cancer five years ago and has been plagued with health issues ever since.
There is some bittersweet news, his manager has confirmed that Gregg's final record is complete. I wish it was spinning at this moment to comfort my broken heart with that soulful voice. We will never see that shit eating grin he always flashed after his magical live show knocked us on our ass. My thoughts go out to his family, friends and millions of fans around the world. He certainly left this world a better place before he flew away. Rest Easy, I love you.
