Today's Monday Grateful Musical Monday Show is a Step into the Eighties. Last time was 74' now we're Going to the Greek: 7-13-84

Today is one of those shows that just sticks out in any given year. Not to mention it is famous for having a shooting star going over the venue that night.

The Grateful Dead hadn't been playing the Greek in Berkeley for very long, even though it was close to home turf. They also rapidly outgrew it, as it is a relatively small venue. This show is a nice, crispy soundboard. I picked it because I'm going to start exploring the Brent years. They spanned from 79-90. An eleven-year span that showed his virtuosity and willingness to explore. He was also the band's keyboardist with the most song contributions. Pigpen may have gotten the band started and added a touch of mojo-hand to those acid blues all those other freaks liked to play. However, for many people, Brent is the Grateful Dead's keyboardist simply for the fact that he was there the longest and was seen by so many more people than Pigpen ever was. This had to do with the popularity of "Touch of Grey" which in this show is stuck in of all places, the middle of Scarlet>Fire. That's right, folks, this is the famous "Scarlet>Touch>FIre" but also it contains and I believe this is the only time, this happened, I may be wrong, but a "Dark Star" encore! Who knows if had to do with the shooting star or what, you can never tell with the Grateful Dead. Like when Mt. Saint Helens blew at approximately the time the band was breaking into "FIre on the Mountain" at the show before their own trip to Washington. So sit back and enjoy the magic. I love a good AUD or a good Matrix but I went with the Charlie Miller SBD, just because you can't beat the crispy sound of a Miller board.
