The inaugural Les Paul Spirit Award goes to Grateful Dead Guitarist Bobby Weir.

"The award is presented to an artist who has exemplified the spirit of Les Paul through engineering, technology or music." It will be presented at this year's edition of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, TN. Bob co-wrote many of the Grateful Dead's iconic songs with longtime contributor, John Perry Barlow and brought some of the most revered cover songs the Grateful Dead added their special magic too. He never stops "listening for the secret, searching for the sound." His distinct style has influenced many musicians, not to play like him but to follow their own path and for that he is finally getting the praise, as a musician, innovator and iconoclast that he has always been.
