Dead and Company took the magic caravan to Camden, N.J. They performed rare songs under the once in a lifetime Summer Solstice  . Setlist and Recap.
Dead and Company just went four shows without repeating one song and have been tight every night. If the streak of no repeats had to end, a "Bertha" followed by a jazzy"Shakedown Street"  is always welcomed. Those would be the only two repeats of the set as "Shakedown" went into a tour debut in the form of a sloppy "West L.A. Fadeaway" Bobby and John alternated lyrics and that was the cause of most the confusion. I would not say it was a rocky start, but it got special quickly with touching versions of "Row Jimmy" and "Crazy Fingers". They extended the end segment of "Crazy Fingers" to great ends, before it exploded into a fiery "I need a Miracle Everyday" into a Dead and Company debut in the form of the all but forgotten"Big Railroad Blues" to close a solid first set.
The second stanza got off to a improvisation start with"Playing in the Band" this incarnation has always stretched this song the way it was intended to be played. Next up came a run of songs where the band turned on the magic. The Tour debut "The Wheel" was used as a launching pad as in bled into a seventies style "Eyes of the World". The madness back doored into a stirring rendition of " Standing of the Moon". This version was different because John handled all the lyrics with grace and confidence. Following the Drums and Space segment which has Oteil join the other two Rythem Devils' for the duration. Steamrolling out of Space was another Dead and Company debut with Dylan's classic "Along the Watchtowe" into " Morning Dew" certified this night special. Obviously the night had the end with the crowd pleaser"Not Fade Away". Add in a "Ripple" encore and the first day of summer has officially past. Dead and Company have played five extremely hot shows with hardly any repeats. Summer  is here! My ole my!
