Gettin' Geared Up For Wakarusa 2014

Festival Preview: Wakarusa Music Festival Ozark, AR
June 5th-8th, 2014

Located at the beautiful Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, AR, Wakarusa Music Festival has spent over a decade crafting a festival experience like none other. According to the festival’s website, “Wakarusa” is a Native American word that means “ass-deep,” which at the time referred to the depth of a river. Today, Wakarusa refers to the depth of an experience, one which the festival is constantly improving to make every year different for attendees.
Concentrating on forging friendships, making memories and creating a truly one-of-a-kind experience that binds all festival-goers together (not to mention an absolutely killer lineup), Wakarusa is guaranteed to provide the perfect jump start to your summer. While I personally will be a “Waka virgin” this year, I have heard my fair share of wonderful things about this festival. First off, being in the mountains in early June, the temperatures are generally fantastic with average highs in the 80s and average lows in the 60s. That certainly does not rule out the possibility of inclement weather, but if it’s clear, it will be magnificent. Mulberry Mountain boasts some of the most beautiful views in the Ozark Mountains. Now let’s talk lineup.
With STS9 headlining Thursday night, The Flaming Lips Friday night, The String Cheese Incident Saturday night and Umphrey’s McGee Sunday night, we’re already talking about a must-see festival. STS9 is fresh off of their first few gigs with their new bassist and debuting new tracks they are working on in the studio. The Flaming Lips are also sporting a new member and will be heading straight off of a U.K. tour onto Mulberry Mountain. The String Cheese Incident is working off the hype from their first studio album in almost a decade. They are touring heavily and playing some of their best live shows in years. Finally, Umphrey’s McGee will be playing their last shows before the release of their new studio record at Wakarusa. Next, let’s add on some late night sets from the likes of The Werks, The String Cheese Incident, Umphrey’s McGee, BoomBox, The Floozies, Bassnectar and Papadosio (just to name a few), and now we’re talking about a complete rager! Other notable acts to check out throughout the day time sets include Dopapod, Fruition, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Lettuce, Random Rab, The Black Cadillacs, The Magic Beans, Orgone, Andy Frasco, The Pimps of Joytime and Kung Fu. It's hard to know where to even  start anymore! Like any stacked  festivals one will have to make some tough choices on who to omit from their personal lineups but the schedule is workable.  Wakarusa also offers morning yoga and hoop & flow workshops each day of the festival. A variety of camping, RV and VIP options are also available for this seemingly unbeatable weekend. Four days of music, nature, unity and magic in the Ozark Mountains. I can’t wait to see all of you out there dancing your asses off!

It's not easy to throw Wakarusa into the queue of Summer Music Festivals that pepper the weekends between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day, mainly because it has 5 stars in all needed areas, 5 star location, 5 star lineup, and 5 star prices.  Something no other festival can attest.
