Nateva Music & Camping Festival: New England Gets A Summer Festival!!!

Share/Bookmark

After years of being the only major region of the country without a rock festival, New England gets a possible answer to Bonnaroo with the inaugural Nateva Music & Camping Festival. The Fourth of July weekend festival will accommodate 15,000 people in Oxford, Maine - two-hours north of Boston. Headliners include the Flaming Lips and the Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band.

"More bands (will be announced on) Feb. 19 along with a major headliner," promoter Frank Chandler said. "But we wanted to announce these two as a show of good faith that this will be a great event. We won't have Phish because Oxford can't handle Phish, but we're going to have talent just short of that level.

Nateva will be more intimate than massive fests like Lollapalooza or Coachella. But it won't be short on entertainment. Chandler hopes to present a cornucopia of attractions, including art installations, circus acts and late-night stages. It could attract thousands of neo- hippies happy to have a new place to wave their freak flags after the recent cancellation of the July 4 Rothbury jam fest in Michigan.

"This isn't easy," Chandler said. "Four similar festivals have gone bankrupt over the last year. But we've been working on this for 13 months and have gotten to the point where, wow, this is really going to happen."
